From Lunchtime Concerts to Podcast Spotlights: The Journey of Raising Gays
MA Drama Directing student Micha Mirto has been busy with her new musical, Raising Gays, which has received funding, professional workshopping and promotional success.
What began as a 45-minute lunchtime concert for ‘Musical Bites’ at The Other Palace, London, has grown into a vibrant and evolving project. Thanks to funding from the Birmingham Hippodrome, writers Micha and co-writer Jordan were able to carve out dedicated time to develop the next draft. This crucial support allowed the musical to mature and deepen, both in content and vision.
Producer Suzanna Rosenthal then joined the team, bringing her expertise to a 90-minute showcase at The King’s Head’s new London venue. Now, the team is looking ahead to a full workshop of the piece next year, with hopes for a tour (fingers crossed!).
Most recently, Raising Gays stepped into the spotlight at the London Podcast Festival, appearing as special guests on The Other Palace’s ‘Making a Musical’ podcast hosted by Kiki Stevenson and Alex Jackson. This appearance offered new audiences a glimpse into the show’s creative process and aspirations.
We recently caught up with Micha who talked more about the project and its future:
