Lois Vohra Joins Kali Theatre’s Discovery Programme and Prepares to Premiere Signature Script at Lantern Theatre

MA Drama Writing graduate Lois Vohra has been offered a place on the prestigious Discovery Programme, a writers’ development scheme in association with Kali Theatre and Bradford’s Theatre in the Mill. The programme supports South Asian women writers, offering mentorship and creative development opportunities.

“Kali is a brilliant organisation that provides such vital representation for South Asian artists and audiences. I cannot wait to start working with them!”

Lois is the second student from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School to be accepted onto the programme, following in the footsteps of Hannah Ali Khan

Alongside this exciting opportunity, Lois’s signature script ‘Rita’s Cafe’ has been selected to headline The Lantern Theatre’s New Writing Festival in early April. Rehearsals begin in January, and Lois will also appear in the production, playing the role of Jenny.

“I am so excited to bring ‘Rita’s Cafe’ to The Lantern Theatre’s New Writing Festival next year. The play is inspired by my hometown, Sheffield, and it means so much that it will be performed in the city’s oldest theatre. I am very grateful to the theatre for taking a chance on a new writer, and I feel so lucky to have been given this amazing opportunity.” – Lois

As soon as I visited the School, I fell in love with the place. Perhaps it sounds a bit irrational, but sometimes you get a vibe - and you just know! BOVTS gave me all the tools I needed to prepare for a career as an actor. Sahir Mehta, MA Professional Acting, 2018
