Kassia Goosen, BA (Hons) Production Arts ’25, has been selected to join the 2024/25 cohort of SLX’s Lighting Programme. This achievement marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning lighting design career.

The Lighting Programme provides expert mentorship and opportunities to up-and-coming lighting designers and technicians from drama schools across the UK, as they head into their third year of training. Kassia expressed her enthusiasm about this opportunity. “I’m very appreciative of my place on the SLX Lighting Programme this year,” she said. “I’ve already been offered some wonderful opportunities – such as helping to rig the London Palladium a few weeks ago!”

Enthusiasts and aspiring theatre makers will have the opportunity to experience Kassia’s atmospheric designs first-hand. Her work will be showcased in the upcoming Theatre School production of Treasure Island, running at Clifton’s Redgrave Theatre from Sat 23 – Sat 30 Nov 2024. To purchase your tickets, head to oldvic.ac.uk/events-shows.

“I am excited to get started on the lighting design for Treasure Island,” Kassia commented. “I’m very grateful that SLX is lending some new and interesting equipment for me to explore, which will further my learning even more.”

Looking ahead, Goosen is optimistic about her future in the industry. “I look forward to many more opportunities to expand my lighting knowledge and ability in the future,” she said. “I can’t wait to meet more like-minded people as I make my way into the industry.”

Kassia follows in the footsteps of BA (Hons) Production Arts ’24 graduates Tom Barge and Nancy Strahan, alumni of the Lighting Programme.
