Katy Sobey

MFA Professional Voice Studies

Biography

Katy is training to become a voice, accent and dialect coach. She is a professional actor and has been working largely in theatre, radio and audio book narration for the last 12 years, having initially trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Drawing on her experience of working for many theatre companies, publishers and BBC Radio, Katy is especially interested in working with actors on creating authentic character accents and helping them extend their vocal ability, so their voice can serve them in any way they choose.

Katy was assistant accent and dialect coach on A Very Expensive Poison (BOVTS/Circomedia).

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
