Maya Ostle

MA Drama Writing Student

Biography

Maya is a writer from South-East England. She likes to write about ghosts, guilt, and love in all its forms. Most importantly she likes to have a laugh, and always wants her work to reflect this!

Maya acted as the Writer’s Liaison for new writing at the University of Birmingham, where she wrote and directed various plays. Following her time in Birmingham, she set up Green Star Theatre Company, an initiative led by a group of UoB alumni. Recently her play, A Rustle, has been performed in Birmingham, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire and Edinburgh.

Maya’s most recent play Everyday is Like Sunday was shortlisted for the Peter Shaffer Postgraduate Award for Playwriting 2025, and will be part of the National Youth Theatre’s StoryFirst Festival in 2025. Maya is a big fan of soap and continuing drama (particularly EastEnders!) and hopes to work in this remit in the future.

One of my favourite parts about BOVTS is that it feels ‘homegrown’. From the set to the costume, lighting, acting and sound, every single aspect of a theatre production or film is down to the students. The location of Clifton is so serene and the School being so small everyone knows each other and it feels so personal and special. Violet Morris, BA Professional Acting Student
