BOVTV is the Film and TV production dept. of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which have just wrapped on another hugely successful and intensely busy year of producing…

A political thriller, unearthing allegations that could sink a mayoral hopeful; two brothers giving too much for gold in a national running competition; a 1970’s supernatural mystery revealing what really happened on a school trip to Scafell Pike; and a poignant, bittersweet comedy exploring a family’s grief, lives and one man’s love of palindromes…

Oh and 10 indie student projects full of heart, grit and ambition.

You can watch every second of these exciting films here:

Marvel and celebrate the talented students and staff of BOVTV – from Actors, Directors, Writers, Producers, Lighting, Sound, Set Construction, Costume, Props, Editing, Post Production and everything in between. This collaborative approach to training allows each and every person to perfect their craft and showcase their talent.

And we are so very proud of all of them.

What led to these amazing final films is quite staggering, when looked at statistically:

– 14 films

– 24 filmed scenes (not part of the 14 films)

– 16 fight scenes

– 46 monologues (all in addition to the above 14 films and 24 scenes)

– 13 terabytes (13,000 gigabytes!) of footage

– more than 200 hours filmed

– 1400 hours editing (not including the animations, scenes and monologues)

– more than 580+ hours of ‘on set’ time

Congratulations to everyone involved with the accomplishments of the BOVTV dept. at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Now it is time to start thinking about next year’s productions – the bar continues to be kept very high!

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
