The intensive, 5-day Acting for Motion Capture course has been designed as a practical exploration of the technical demands, professional expectations and functional operations of a full performance capture shoot. This course will further your skills and knowledge to succeed in one of the fastest growing sectors of the performance industries.

• Familiarise yourself with basic principles, technology, suits, head-mounted cameras and functions of all the hardware behind a professional motion capture shoot;
• Arm yourself with practical knowledge, terminology and performance styles needed as professional actors from a business perspective;
• Prepare to take on a motion capture audition or job, having gained practical experience by working with industry professionals.
This is a full-time, five-day course, running from 09:30 to 17:00. Monday, Tuesday and Friday will be taught in our studios at Downside Road. Wednesday and Thursday will be taught at CAMERA Motion Capture Studio, Bath.
Jessica Jefferies (CDA, CDG) is a Casting Director, who specialises in casting for video games, animation, film and XR.
They have previously worked with Disney, Pixeltoys, Guerrilla, Creative Assembly, Maze Theory, Cloud Imperium, Ninja Theory, Axis Studios, Moonbug Entertainment, NETFLIX, RADA, The Imaginarium Studios, East 15 Acting School, Framestore, University of Portsmouth, Future of Storytelling, Relic, Reflectoe, Rocksteady, Meta, GamesWorkshop and Saber.
Sean Hollands is a distinguished Director, Movement Director, and Performance Capture Director with extensive experience in both theatre and video games.Â
A graduate of Rose Bruford College’s European Theatre Arts course in 2014, Sean refined his directorial skills and began a professional journey with Frantic Assembly following participation in their Ignition programme in 2012. Currently, Sean serves as a Practitioner for Frantic Assembly, leading workshops and residencies globally, including in Europe, Asia, the USA, and South America.
Leveraging skills from Frantic Assembly and Rose Bruford, Sean ventured into Movement Direction, contributing to numerous productions. In 2016, Sean received the Bryan Forbes Award from the National Youth Theatre and served as REP Director, working on productions such as Pigeon English, Romeo + Juliet, and directing DNA by Dennis Kelly in the West End. DNA’s success continued with various versions across different venues, attracting sold-out audiences.
Sean has continued to excel as a Director and Movement Director, including the acclaimed production Warheads, which received an Olivier Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre.
Currently, Sean works as a Freelance Creative and a Creative Associate for The Lost Estate, delivering large-scale immersive productions with full dinner service.Â

However, we reserve the right to cancel a short course in case of events outside our control or if the course fails to meet a minimum number of participants. In the event that we cancel a course, we will inform participants who have booked a place via email at least 7 days prior to the start date. We will also provide a full refund of the course fee paid. Bristol Old Vic Theatre School cannot be held responsible for any expenses you incur due to such a cancellation.
Students training on a BOVTS summer course between 6 July and 27 August 2024 are eligible to book discounted accommodation between those dates at UWE Bristol’s Purdown View.
