MA Performance Design Student


Biography

Hugo is a Performance Designer, working holistically across disciplines of set, lighting, and video design. He received his BA (Hons) in Italian and History of Art from UCL in 2021, with the highest marked dissertation of his cohort, entitled After Dark: Light as a material for placemaking. In 2019, Hugo spent a year working as an electrician and lighting design assistant at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Hugo’s specialist skills include digital modelling and drafting, lighting design, visualisation and programming. BOVTS credits include: Romeo and Juliet (Redgrave Theatre); The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (The Station).

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
