The Online Masterclass: Self-Tape is designed to equip actors with the skills and techniques necessary to create compelling self-tape auditions. With the increasing shift towards virtual auditions, mastering the art of self-taping is crucial for every actor. This hands-on session will cover everything from technical setup to performance tips, ensuring participants leave with the confidence and knowledge to produce high-quality self-tape auditions that stand out.
Bristol Old Vic Theatre School offers a fun and nurturing environment in which to pursue your creative ambitions. The support and feedback available from your tutor will help you develop your skills and confidence in creating self-tapes for auditions.
Course Outline
This session is perfect for actors looking to boost their success rate, as well as those auditioning for drama school courses that require a self-tape.
The workshop will run from 14:00 to 17:00 and will focus on the following topics:Â
- Appropriate equipment types and usage,
- Techniques for framing and lighting your scene.
- Understanding how surrounding environments affect sound quality.
- Character preparation through textual analysis.
- How to effectively use a scene partner for support or fake one when alone.
- Guidelines for submitting a self-tape and receiving feedback.
- Do’s and don’ts for successful self-taping.
The course will take place on Google Meet.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must be aged 18 or over by the time of the course start date
Attendees will need:
- One contemporary monologue, no more than two minutes in length for the course, not for the application.
Though not required, we recommend that you have:
- Smartphone / camera
- Tripod
