1952 Graduate Phyllida Law Passes Away

The BOVTS community were deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of 1952 graduate Phyllida Law.

Phyllida initially joined the School to become a stage designer, but switched to acting. It was in Bristol she married fellow actor Eric Thompson – a photograph of the wedding at St George’s can be found in the University of Bristol Theatre Archives: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2003/232.html

Her career was extensive and impressive since graduating, appearing in film, theatre and television up until 2020. A number of her projects saw her acting alongside her daughters Emma and Sophie Thompson (Sophie also a BOVTS graduate, class of 1983).

Our thoughts are with Phyllida’s family & friends and we are so proud to have had such an inspiring person as part of our community.
