Congratulations to BOVTS alum Gregory Doran who has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to the arts.

Sir Gregory came to Bristol in 1977 to study Drama and English at the University of Bristol before enrolling at BOVTS in 1980 to train on the two-year Professional Acting course. He began work as an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1987, becoming Assistant Director in 1989 and Artistic Director in 2012.

Alongside directing countless productions, under his tenure as Artistic Director, Sir Gregory oversaw the expansion of education programmes to reach 500,000 schoolchildren each year; saw the RSC grow to welcome over 1 million visitors annually; and made significant advances in addressing issues of equality and diversity on the RSC’s stages and within its creative teams.

Congratulations to Sir Greg from all of us at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School!
