We are excite to announce that not one, but two Bristol Old Vic Theatre School alumni have received an MBE in the King’s honours list this year.
Christopher Turner, class of 1997, was awarded an MBE for his work with London Bus Company, which many of our graduating students have gone on to work with:
“Getting an MBE has been wonderful as its recognition for all the work The London Bus Theatre Company has provided for young people throughout the UK for 25 years. The training I received as an actor at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School under Rudi Shelley was exemplary and it gave me a material advantage in rising to prominence. I left drama school in the 1990s and immediately gained work as an actor. This led to setting up The London Bus Theatre Company in 2001 and projects have ranged from touring plays for schools, weekend drama clubs and feature films that were screened in Cineworld. The current project I am working on is Jaywick – The Musical with a release in 2027.”
Playwright and theatre director, Sean Aita, graduating student of 1982, was awarded an MBE for their contribution to English Language and culture in the UK and Europe.
“I’m delighted to have been given this award as I feel that it is important that those of us working outside the West End and the movie industry can also have our contribution to the profession recognised and rewarded.”
Congratulations to both Sean and Christopher – it’s amazing to see how our alumni are succeeding and celebrating achievements in every stage of their careers.
