Step inside the Actor’s Studio….we mean… The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and imagine there was a course which made you authentic and real by simply … not …focusing on yourself ?

Did you know…?

Lee Strasberg’s  ‘Method’ often dominates conversation whilst studying styles of acting. However Strasberg , Alder and Meisner are all part of the ‘Method’ which inspired the ‘glittering stars’ of the 20th century. In fact, many familiar faces studied under Sanford Meisner. Pupil Jack Nicholson, for example said

“Meisner used to say that one’s talent lies in their ability to follow their instincts.”

The assumption with most acting techniques, is that one draws from their own experiences to portray a character. Whilst Stella Adler goes the opposite of personal and focuses on imagination, Meisner’s practice is reacting off your fellow actor’s emotional cues.

“What happens to you doesn’t depend on you, it depends on the other actor”. – Meisner

It’s Not About YOU

Method acting is an internal, self reflective process – there are many famous stories about actors drawing from their most sad, happy and fraught times in life. Some even act-out the experience if it’s not lived. There’s internal manipulation and psychology involved. Meisner, however, is about putting the attention to your scene partner and responding to their response with our own personal history.

Joy In Repetition

Whilst the learning of Meisner Technique is simple in principle, the consistent practice can be tough. Through many sessions, you practice the exercise of repetition, which eventually will result in flexibility, adaptability and fluid response.

Why An Introduction Class?

Meisner Technique is a commitment, but our Introductory Course is the perfect way to learn the principles of the teaching, have a practice at applying technique and discovering if the style is right for you as an actor. You might have studied a different style, or even be interested in long-term acting training in the future.

Introduction To Meisner 5 Day Course
