Eleanor Beddell-Garner is a final-year Production Arts student at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, specialising in lighting design. Her work is grounded in text and performance, using colour, contrast, effects and timing to shape atmosphere and support storytelling. She is particularly interested in how lighting can define mood and tension within a piece, especially in plays where the visual language is central to the audienceβs experience.
She is drawn to bold but considered choices, ensuring every design decision serves the world of the production. Her approach centres on shaping the visual language of a piece, leading the lighting narrative from initial concept through to the final stage picture. She is particularly interested in the choreography of light within musical theatre as well as text-led work, using timing and rhythm to elevate performance.
Alongside her creative practice, she has a strong technical understanding of lighting systems and workflows. She incorporates Vectorworks into her design process to develop detailed rig plans and ensure the practical realisation of her work, and is confident working collaboratively with production teams to deliver designs with clarity and precision. She maintains an active interest in stage management, particularly Deputy Stage Management, which informs her understanding of cueing, timing, and the live rhythm of performance.
