Laura Pogose

BA (Hons) Costume Student

Biography

During her BA Top-Up year, Laura has explored leather working within Costume, researching many of its unique skills and techniques such as: cutting, dyeing, carving, burnishing, embossing, sealing and finishing. Whilst studying, she has taken on work placements Costume Assisting on ‘Beauty & the Beast’ (Disney Tour) and ‘The Meaning of Zong’ (Bristol Old Vic Theatre). Laura also has a keen interest in workroom experience, taking part in placements at ‘Bristol Costume Services’ and making costumes for ‘Scratchworks Theatre Company’. Credits in training: ‘Macbeth’ (Bristol Old Vic) as costume maker; ‘Her Naked Skin’ (Circomedia) and ‘The Laramie Project’ (Bristol Old Vic, Western Studio) as Costume Assistant/Dresser; ‘Chef’ and ‘Silk Road’ (The Wardrobe Theatre) as Supervisor and ‘Dreamers’ as Supervisor/Standby.

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
