Carly Brownbridge

Theatre Design MA Student

Biography

Carly is a Set and Costume Designer who works across theatre, opera, events, film and TV. She has a degree in Drama Studies and, prior to studying at BOVTS, worked in higher education and commercial design for eight years before finding her way back to theatre.

During the course Carly was the Set and Projection Designer for The Laramie Project at Bristol Old Vic. She is currently working on a site specific, socially distanced live broadcast of two Edward Allen Baker plays for the Bristol Arts Channel.

Carly’s work often takes inspiration from the seemingly mundane and overlooked details of the world. She is excited by working with text, particularly new writing and enjoys creating worlds that intimately connect the audience with the story.

You may be interested to know that her favourite musical is Caroline, or Change and her design process is aided by Hector, a small and very excitable dachshund.

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
