Chris Sims

MA Drama Directing Student

Biography

Chris is a Nottingham-based theatre director. His work focuses on stories that examine what at first may seem inexplicable, finding empathy and acceptance in place of rejection and condemnation, and on work that connects actors and audience through both comedy and tragedy. His approach to theatre puts a high priority on inclusion and wellbeing across all members of the production team, and these themes are also reflected in his work. He has a particular interest in telling Queer stories, in the broadest sense of hearing voices from beyond mainstream normativity.

At BOVTS, Chris is directing April de Angelis’ Wild East at the Bristol Old Vic. Previous productions include Equus by Peter Shaffer, Foxfinder by Dawn King, The Pride by Alexi Kaye Campbell, and 4:48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane.

As soon as I visited the School, I fell in love with the place. Perhaps it sounds a bit irrational, but sometimes you get a vibe - and you just know! BOVTS gave me all the tools I needed to prepare for a career as an actor. Sahir Mehta, MA Professional Acting, 2018
