Florence Carr-Jones

MA Drama Directing Student

Biography

Florence is a theatre maker drawn to bold, boundary-pushing work that leaves audiences feeling fizzy. Her practice is both intentional and instinct-led, rooted in the power of live performance to build communal connection. Passionate about interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches, Florence wants to make theatre that is fearless, precise, and inclusive for contemporary audiences.

She holds an MA in History from the University of Edinburgh, where she was deeply involved in student theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Florence has worked as assistant director on Ali De Souza’s Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream double bill and will direct Ballyturk by Enda Walsh at The Bristol Old Vic Weston Studio in her final term.

Other recent credits include Seating Plan by Izzy Radford (Union Theatre and Gilded Balloon 2025), It’s A Sheet Show by Florence Carr-Jones and Leonardo Shaw (Riddle’s Court, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024), The Welkin by Lucy Kirkwood (Bedlam Theatre, 2023), Cheeky Girls by Florence Carr-Jones (The Space, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2022), and The Emu War: A New Musical (Research & Development, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, 2025).

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
