Imogen Lilley

MA Drama Directing Student

Biography

Imogen Lilley is a dynamic director and theatre-maker based in Reading and the South East, whose work aims to explore themes of identity, reclaim and revolutionise the theatrical canon and subvert social expectations. Influenced by her background in Musical Theatre and Latin dance, Imogen embraces the muscularity of text, movement and music to create bold and powerful pieces.

Imogen is a passionate advocate for new writing and devised work and is particularly interested in adaptation, contemporary retelling of classics and female-centric narratives. Recently, Imogen was an assistant director on Max Key’s production of ‘Thebans’ performed at The Station, Bristol and is directing Abi Morgan’s ‘Splendour’ at the Weston Studio, Bristol Old Vic.

One of my favourite parts about BOVTS is that it feels ‘homegrown’. From the set to the costume, lighting, acting and sound, every single aspect of a theatre production or film is down to the students. The location of Clifton is so serene and the School being so small everyone knows each other and it feels so personal and special. Violet Morris, BA Professional Acting Student
