GENERATE showcases the work of graduating creatives from the MA Performance Design, MA Scenic Art, FdA and BA (Hons) Costume, and BA Production Arts courses at the Theatre School.

This year’s event will be held at the iconic M-Shed in Bristol’s harbourside between Friday 9 and Sunday 11 July. Whether you’re interested in theatre and the visual arts, considering a professional career in the creative industries, or just intrigued about work that goes on behind-the-scenes to bring a show to life, we’re delighted to welcome you.

“Out of crisis is often borne great innovation – and indeed creativity. It’s often claimed that Shakespeare wrote King Lear during an outbreak of the plague, and during the Covid-19 crisis, our students have produced some phenomenal and truly beautiful work. The Generate exhibition is a testament to their tenacity and resolve and we look forward to welcoming the public to what promises to be a fitting celebration of the culmination of their training.”

Jenny Stephens, Artistic Director

Due to Covid-19 precautions, entry to GENERATE is ticketed. Please select a time from our Eventbrite page and aim to arrive at the exhibition for the start of your fifty minute slot. Due to the capacity limit, we cannot guarantee you entry if you arrive after your time slot.

ⓘ Please note that on Friday 9 July, we’ll be taking photos and footage at the exhibition. By booking one of these slots, you acknowledge that you may appear within event publicity which may be circulated online and on the BOVTS website.

Online Exhibition

We’re delighted to be able to return to an in-person exhibition this year. If you’re not able to make it in person, that a digital exhibition with a selection of work from GENERATE is now available here.

The training provided by the MFA programme is superb. The depth with which we explore, paired with unyielding curiosity that is met with the most knowledgeable, passionate, expert tutors is what makes BOVTS programme one of the finest around. I feel honoured to call BOVTS my grad school. Rachel McVay, MA Professional Acting Student
