Whilst at the school, the students were led by visiting devising professional Liz Felton (The Story Cellar) & Head Of Music & Foundation Jonathan Grosberg in a devising project and from that project the MFA cohort developed 40 mins of musical work around Shakespeare’s Pericles.
The school then gave students James Hancock-Evans & Hollie Hurrell permission to continue the project. Along with Rafael Solimeno-Harris (Directing MA cohort ’25), they developed a script inspired by that project for a sharing at the Tobacco Factory in April & now for a short run as part of the Camden Fringe 2026. You can see the show at the Old Red Lion Pub & Playhouse in London, with a then one night only performance at The Wardrobe Theatre Bristol on August 29th.

A new Off-West End musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Pericles has been announced. Marking the London debut of ensemble theatre group Nevermind Company, this new production of Shakespeare’s classic will take audiences on a rampant, unrepentant,
rollicking musical adventure! PERICLES (kind of) is a rapid un-telling? re-telling? mis-telling? of Shakespeare’s stormy story.
Traditionally, Pericles follows a wandering prince who flees an incestuous king. Survives storms and shipwrecks. Escapes assassins. Wins deadly jousts! Falls in and out of love. Endures another storm. Is bested by Pirates? All ending in a brothel? A tale of true virtue! Through centuries of adaptations this story has changed surprisingly little… for Pericles. In this new telling however, Pericles has his work cut out for him. Part Operation Mincemeat, part The Play That Goes Wrong, part The Princess Bride, PERICLES (kind of) is a musical that entertains, delights & ultimately leaves the audience wondering: is that really how the story goes?
