Eva Hudson (MA Drama Writing ’23) has achieved remarkable success with her debut short film, I Knew Her Before She was a Virgin, winning multiple international awards including the Titan Film Festival Award for Best Debut Filmmaker in Sydney and the Hollywood Just4Shorts prize for Best Drama Short.

Written and directed by Eva, the film – which originated as a script written during a Context and Style module in Eva’s first term at BOVTS – demonstrates the School’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and fostering cross-course collaboration. The short film brought together students from multiple disciplines, such as current third-year BA (Hons) Professional Acting students Violet Morris and Joshua Hogan in leading roles, and current third-year BA (Hons) Production Arts student Tegan Askey serving as Assistant Director.

Eva commented: “I was really lucky to find generous collaborators in BOVTS students Violet, Joshua and Tegan. We shot the film just a few months after I graduated! I am grateful that our film has gained such incredible recognition, and for meeting such brilliant people whilst training at BOVTS.”

The film, which explores the debilitating condition of endometriosis, has also been selected for screening at prestigious events including the Athens International Art Film Festival and an upcoming festival in Edinburgh, marking an impressive start to Eva’s career in film.

Plans are underway for a public release, with online launch and local screening events to be announced in the coming months. Follow Gentlewoman Production House on Instagram for all the latest details.

Congratulations Eva!
