Biography

Toby is an Anglo-Dutch multidisciplinary artist based in the Southwest of England, specialising in new writing, devised work, and contemporary performance. A playful and curious creator, he draws on 30 years of experience across scriptwriting, directing, performance, photography, and design to transform the ordinary into comedic, joyful, and mischievous worlds that celebrate human connection.

After earning a BA (Hons) in TV & Radio Production at Bournemouth University has collaborated with leading arts institutions, including Bristol Old Vic (as playwright-in-residence), The Bush, Royal Court, Southwark Playhouse, BAC, Birmingham Rep, and Paines Plough.

His produced plays include Gringos (Bristol Old Vic / Southwark Playhouse / BAC), Summer in the City (Bristol Old Vic / BAC), Aeroplane BonesThat’s All Folks!, and Eat the Young (Bristol Old Vic). Other highlights include Social Grooming (Paines Plough – National Tour) and Pool Party (Writer and Director, Theatre West) and the sketch comedy show The Fat Stock Show, co-written and performed with Martin Constantine (Chichester Theatre). Toby has adapted classics such as A Christmas Carol (***** The Guardian) and The Adventures of Pinocchio (Tobacco Factory Theatres) and contributed to the development of Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Unconsoled at the National Theatre Studio.

Toby also worked as a script editor on two series of Aardman Animations’ multi-award-winning Creature Comforts for ITV1.
