Corey Evans

MA Drama Writing Student

Biography

Corey is a playwright and screenwriter from South Wales whose work primarily explores raw, emotional narratives, unpredictable characters and the complexities of the human experience. He studied a BA in Creative and Professional Writing and the University of West England where he received first-class honours. It was during this time where he enhanced his deep-rooted love and passion for script-writing, leading him to study MA Drama Writing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

During the MA, Corey has focused on enhancing his style of naturalistic writing, exploring emotionally complex characters and developing ambitious narratives while harnessing skill and adding technique to his writer’s tool-kit. Corey’s first full-length play, Splinter, is set in his hometown of Swansea and explores the vast complications of generational trauma as a young man and his mother grapple with a violent past that is buried in a shallow grave. Corey has written multiple short films and stories.

A flash fiction piece ‘Small Exchange’ was published in Issue One of The Nova Journal. Corey has written a feature length screenplay which he plans to develop professionally post MA. It is a story that follows a bare knuckle boxer’s journey into a malignant underworld of savagery to save the woman he loves.

One of my favourite parts about BOVTS is that it feels ‘homegrown’. From the set to the costume, lighting, acting and sound, every single aspect of a theatre production or film is down to the students. The location of Clifton is so serene and the School being so small everyone knows each other and it feels so personal and special. Violet Morris, BA Professional Acting Student
