Emily Duchen is a writer and performer from North-West London. Her work aims to challenge the audience, questioning what we hold to be true and destabilising the social.
She is particularly interested in the relationship between language, humour and power which she began exploring while completing her undergraduate degree in Drama and English literature at The University of Manchester.
Emily was a member of The Soho Theatre Comedy lab and has perfomed sketch comedy and stand up. At University, she was an active member of the Drama society where her debut play, Oodles of Doodles, a comedy about the creation of the first labradoodle was produced. A second play of hers, Dissing Sigmund Freud, a comedy exploring gender bias within the education system was also produced.
Her writing has been performed in various venues such as The Alma Tavern, Barons Court Theatre and The Soho Theatre.
She has enjoyed learning to write for different mediums, particularly radio, and is looking forward to continuing to develop this after the course as well as a growing interest in children’s theatre and facilitation.
