Yuxuan Liu

MA Drama Directing Student

Biography

Yuxuan is excited by fun, provocative, inventive, and international theatre experiences. As a result, he is constantly searching for interesting, touching, and imaginative stories from around the world to stage creatively. As a director, he devises original work and stages existing plays, incorporating text, music, movement, and puppetry.

From 2018 to 2021, he trained on the BA World Performance course at East 15 Acting School. Whilst at BOVTS, Yuxuan worked as the assistant director and musical director on Sammy and the Sea Morgans directed by Liz Felton (Theatre in Education Tour), and as an assistant director on Loam directed by Marcus Romer (Bristol Old Vic). His recent directing credits include: Hamlet (2022, The Wardrobe Theatre), Fallen Leaves (2021, Clifftown Theatre).

It was always stressed that the contacts you make during your training are incredibly important, and your classmates are likely to end up being on set alongside you in the future. After working with a director of photography on one of the School’s short films, I was invited to work on a project with him outside of Bristol - proving that the professionals we meet via the School, may one day give us a call to action!
