As we approach our 80th year of producing the world’s best creative industry professionals, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School is seeking to appoint several exceptional and energetic individuals as Trustees. We are currently a small Council of Trustees, and we are looking to grow significantly as we enter the next phase of development for this inspirational institution with a global reputation for excellence.
We are entering a new era of growth and innovation; developing a new vision and strategy that will define a sustainable future for our School – a Bristol icon, with a track record of training the world’s best creative talent!
This is a unique opportunity to play a key part in setting that strategic direction, working with key industry partners, alumni, and wider stakeholders to develop cutting-edge training for the future of theatre, film, television, and gaming. It’s a role that can have international impact in one of the best creative industry training providers in the world.

Our aim is to be a student-focused, talent first, diverse and inclusive organisation with global reach and we are looking for dynamic and collaborative individuals from diverse backgrounds who have the skills and experience to support the School through this vital period of change.
Candidates will need to be strategically engaged, focused and thoughtful in their contribution, and diligent in developing a nuanced understanding of the institution and of the performing arts industry.
We are particularly seeking expertise in:
– business development and organisational transformation
– charity governance
– inclusion and diversity
– human resources
– the digital world and artificial intelligence
– marketing and communications.
– We would also welcome individuals with strong links and understanding of the 21st century performing arts industry for example talent agencies, production and streaming companies.
We particularly wish to increase participation of women, people from the global majority, young people (over-18), and those with disabilities. Training and mentoring will be available as required. The roles are unpaid but reasonable expenses will be covered.
Candidates should ideally demonstrate experience of working at board level, but we would consider the right candidates at an earlier stage in their non-executive career Appointees to the Board will need to be sympathetic to the School’s mission and values (see About Us – Bristol Old Vic Theatre School).
