Amy Iles

MA Drama Directing Student

Biography

Amy is a Bristol-based theatre director and facilitator. She is interested in character-driven storytelling that speaks to the nuance of human relationships, especially those that centre women and their experiences. Her work is brave, energetic, highly collaborative and playful. She enjoys working across devised theatre, adaptation, improvised theatre and boldly reinventing classical theatre.

Amy graduated from the University of Bristol in 2019 with First Class Honours in Theatre and Performance Studies. She has facilitated theatre classes, workshops and productions for companies across the South West since 2019, including Theatre Royal Bath, Travelling Light Theatre Company, Stagecoach Performing Arts, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the Bristol Improv Theatre.  In 2024, she completed Tobacco Factory Theatre’s Young Producers scheme, ‘BLUEPRINT’.

Credits include: Deposit by Matt Hartley (Bristol Old Vic, 2025); The Winter’s Tale (Tobacco Factory Theatres, 2025 – Assistant Director); Redpython (Bristol Improv Theatre, 2023).

One of my favourite parts about BOVTS is that it feels ‘homegrown’. From the set to the costume, lighting, acting and sound, every single aspect of a theatre production or film is down to the students. The location of Clifton is so serene and the School being so small everyone knows each other and it feels so personal and special. Violet Morris, BA Professional Acting Student
